ABOUT POWER STRUCTURES Series
Large cities organised major events and world fairs to showcase their economic prowess. These developed mainly from the second half of the 19th century onwards, symbolising the industrial and commercial progress of the liberal capitalist economy.
In order to showcase this economic progress, buildings designed to host such celebrations had to embody the achievements of modern industry, which is why architects designed gigantic iron and glass structures that were highly transparent and spacious.
